Meet the Valhalla Hill Family

After a lot of searching, Wade and Ellie McGinnis found their farm in Harrison Co. Kentucky in June of 2020. The previous owner was gracious enough to sell the existing cattle and equipment making Wade and Ellie commercial cattle farmers overnight. It was quite a lifestyle change, but cattle farming was always the goal.

Since then, Wade and Ellie have worked tirelessly making improvements on the farm, grow the herd and educate themselves on the cattle industry. Both Wade and Ellie are Certified Master Cattleman and have their KY-BQA certification.

Today Valhalla Hill is proud to offer exceptional commercial replacement heifers and beef sales direct to customer. But cattle aren’t the only thing on the farm. Upon purchasing the farm, beekeeping became a hobby.

Every spring a limited amount of Valhalla Hill fresh raw honey is offered. As members of the Licking Valley Honeybee Society, Wade and Ellie have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the art and skill of apiculture and becoming apiarists.

Wade, Ellie and their son J.P. spend a lot of time working on their 1887 farmhouse that they have affectionately named, June. It was a huge perk to find acreage that had an old house with history and a lot of potential. When gutting the inside, it was discovered that the parlor room mantle was signed by the architect with the date, June - 1887. Wade and Ellie also bought the farm in the month of June, hence the houses name.

Ellie’s mom and dad, David and Becky O’Neill spend a lot of time at the farm and have been vital in the restoration of June. While working on the house, the idea came about to start an online farm store. With Becky’s talent in art and sewing and David’s woodworking skills, a collection of handcrafted products will be available on the website in 2026 along with Valhalla Hill’s fresh raw honey and a selection of sourdough products.

Occasionally questions are asked about the farms name. Ellie has Norwegian ancestry, so the name “Valhalla” was very fitting. In Nordic Mythology, Valhalla is essentially a hall in heaven in the realm of the Gods. The farm is nestled in the hills of Harrison County. So, to us, our farm means “Heaven Hill.”  Wade, Ellie and J.P. are grateful to call Cynthiana home and proud to be an agricultural family.
